Our Grand Knight

Dear Brothers, Friends and Family of Fountain Hills Council 9188,

First I would like to thank all our brother knights for entrusting me to be Grand Knight for yet another year. I would especially like to thank all of our experienced brothers that have helped teach me how the Council operates and all about the functions that make Fountain Hills Council 9188 such a great Council. Again, thanks to you, I am sure that this year will also be a great success.

I would also like to thank all of the Brothers who have taken officer positions because, together, I am convinced we will create another very successful year. As long as we all work together, we will be able to continue – with the help of all Brothers – the charity and community support that our great Council has a reputation for. I have seen in the past year many new members getting very active in the council and along with all of the other members who have always been very active, bringing new life and excitement to our functions and activities. I am excited at our new ability to organize and communicate with the new council website and Facebook pages. I have been to meetings with other councils and they have been saying that the Fountain Hills Council has been doing a great job and acknowledging the changes we have made. I proudly informed them that with the recruitment of our new knights, we’ve enlisted true Catholic gentlemen into our Council membership recently that have brought great forward thinking and skills. Along with the bother knights we have already, there has been much excitement and true feeling of brotherhood in everybody’s hearts.

To all members – and especially to new members – please take the time this year to get involved. If you have any concerns, suggestions or ideas, please contact me and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Also, please know that my door is always open if anyone ever has a problem or situation they need to discuss.

I look forward to being Grand Knight this year and furthering the great work our council does for this community. Thank you again for your confidence in me.

Our Chaplain

Dear Brother Knights,

We are well into the New Year and my prayer is that you and your families have a blessed, healthy and holy new year.

Time passes very quickly as we are now entering the season of Lent. Lent as you know is a time of renewal, fasting and abstinence. Sometimes the meaning of fasting and abstinence confuses us. Fasting is giving up something or doing more for the sake of the love of God and abstinence means doing without something for the love of God.

Lent is a time of renewal and a time to strengthen our relationship with God, to be aware of Gods presences in our lives. The key is to find some quality time each day to pray, to put aside something or abstain from something so you can be with God. When you pray start by listening to God. Find a time and place where you can sit and be in Gods presence. Don’t pressure yourself with talk, God asks us to put aside those distractions and be in his presence. God knows what is in our hearts before we speak. We just need to listen and then respond to his voice.

Lents days can be holy and exciting if we take some time to make God a priority in our lives.

During this time and all during the year let us remember to pray for one another that each of our families and us will grow closer to the one who loves us.

Please pray for the family of our departed Brother Joe Mazzocchi. Joe had been a very active member of our council for many years and he and his wife Mary Ann have contributed countless hours to serve the needs of our council, our families, the church of the Ascension and the Fountain Hills community. The Fairs will not be the same without him.

Please continue to pray for me, and I will continue to pray for you and your families.

God Bless,

Deacon Dick Smith
